Preg Check month was here again. This year with semi's lined up to transport cows of the ranch to the sale barn, corn stalks or a feed yard.
The drought hit too hard, we don't have enough hay on stock to feed everything all winter long. And it turns out- it's easier to take the cows to the feed, than the feed to the cows.
Our particular herd went to a feedlot in Decatur, Kansas.
Because of the funeral they moved our preg check date so we could be here for it. I cooked a breakfast snack and lunch meal like usual. Because all the cows were shipping off as soon as they were determined pregnant or open, we did it all at Merel's corrals where you can preg check and ship at the same time- at our corrals its only one or the other. Which is nice for the cowboys, miserable for the cook. Not always the easiest to pack a full big meal to them.
This drought is making our lives pretty interesting. We just keep praying for moisture.
