I am so behind in blogging but I guess I had better stay current and then go back or I might forget more. This past week has been full of lots of things- probably boring for anyone else to read- but the blog is my journal so I can post what I want.
MONDAY-
Left Utah on an Airplane. Arrived in Denver, CO on time. Unloaded off the plane, went and rode the underground "train", collected our bags and carseat, rode on the shuttle bus to our truck. Cinch was pretty thrilled to ride on a plane, train and bus all in one day. After we got out of the aiport we headed to Sams Club to load up on groceries for the next month- you just can't beat their prices. After we were loaded up it was 6:00 and we headed home to the ranch- a 4 hour drive. Cinch was an amazing traveler- can't complain at all. We got home at 10:15 and he was wide awake yelling at the dogs and his dad as soon as we got to the house.
TUESDAY-
Daniel took Cinch to mineral the cows so I could sleep in and regain some strength and patience after being a single parent for 6 days. Thank you Daniel! But then I felt really really bad- the truck had gotten stuck and I didn't hear them call on the cb radio while I was sleeping so they had to hike back to the house- about an hour walk- luckily the mail lady picked them up and brough them the last 2 miles. So, I got up and we took the tractor out, got the truck unstuck and finished mineraling.
I don't remember what we did that afternoon- but it kept us busy almost until dark but we needing to get a new hot wire fence up so we were out building fence in the dark and of course the mesquitos were horrible but we got it done- the only bad part- Cinch was playing with one of his trains and lost it in the dark.
WED-
Daniel was up early and off to meetings with employees from all the church ranches. The boss was away but we still had a list- but my list came first. I spent the morning washing windows and going through a huge stack of window screens and figuring out what window they go to- took way too long to accomplish that task. We came in for lunch and of course and rain storm came through and got my windows all dirty. Got some yard work done while Cinch was sleeping and then we had to go move our 1,000 head of yearling heifers. The move went pretty good- except for 100 head that couldn't find the gate- tried 3 gates and gave up and left them til morning.
Daniel got home after dark- told me about the meeting and all the Florida people he visited with and the big shots he meet.
THURSDAY-
Daniel was up and gone early again to the 2nd day of meetings. Once we were up and fed we went and got the last 100 head of heifers in the right pasture- the hot wire didn't seem hot as calves were climbing underneath it- called Daniel to see what I needed to do- he said he should be home before sunset so he'd take care of it.
Some other cowboys pushed 120 cows to our corrals that the vet will be out to preg check tomorrow, Luckily I checked the gates or they all would have been in our yard.
Nap Time- I helped Cinch take his nap that day.
Afternoon we had to go out and check pairs (mama's & babies) and open gates into a new pasture so they would have pleanty of feed.
Evening came and the lawn needed to be mowed so Cinch played in his sand box while I started mowing. Daniel got home and took Cinch out to check the hot wire fence- so I could finish mowing. As I was finishing mowing the boys cam home and got in the tractor and told me to follow on the 4-wheeler (it was pitch black at this time). The heifers had pushed part of the hot wire down that the deer must have helped with and there was a heifer in a drain ditch - that couldn't get out- she was ready to die- so we got the tractor close to her and Daniel had to get in the water to get a chain around her to hook to the tractor. Long story short- we got her out and she lived. Bad news heifers were in a totally wrong pasture that they aren't supposed to be in so we can hay it- Really Bad news- we were all covered in mesquito bites!!
FRIDAY-
Daniel was up at 4 to go get the heifers back into the right pasture. The vet was supposed to be here at 7. 6:30 came and I heard a truck in the yard- the vet was here early- I looked out to see if Daniel was back from the heifers to get the cows pushed down to the chute. I didn't see him so I hurry and got dressed to go get the cows ready. Luckily by the time I got outside Daniel was getting the job done. The rest of the crew showed up at 7. Cinch and I helped work the ally way and were the hydration team for the cowboys. It was 85* by 10. A HOT day. They got everything preg checked and seperated for the semis that were coming that afternoon. The first semi got here and but we couldn't load it up yet- so Cinch & 2 other kids went and played all over in the bull wagon- he had so much fun. When it was time for them to load up Cinch & I came back in the house to cool off. 1 Semi was off and 3 more were late but we needed to leave for town so Daniel could take a test for his summer class at the Library- so as we were leaving the semis showed up and Daniel gave them their paperwork and we left for town and even made it on time for his test. After the test we ran some errands and came back home-
SATURDAY-
5:30 came and Daniel was up to go get all of our horse caught and saddled. I was trying to go back to sleep til 6:15 but I couldn't and then the phone rang. I looked at the time and wondered who it could be- people call the house as early at 6:30 but 5:30am that could only mean 1 thing- My sister Josie was having her baby... Well she had - had it! A new baby girl! It made being up that early worth it. I got dressed and Cinch Dressed and we were on our way to help on the heifer unit for the morning. We pushed the heifer pairs. Cinch fell asleep the last little bit of the push when he climbed on to ride with me.
Daniel took us home at lunch and went back to help round up bulls. Cinch took a nap and I finally got my flower pots planted! I even got our truck vaccumed and washed!. Daniel got home and we went and helped him check some of our cows. Finally got in the house 9:45 a perfect time for dinner- right.
SUNDAY-
The one day we could sleep in and of course CINCH wakes up early! Was a little angry but oh well. Had our 5.5 hour round trip to church. We had one of the interns and his wife over for dinner. Was nice to have company- but a nap would have been okay as well. We needed to go check heifers but it started raining so Daniel went by himself. And well- then the day of rest was about over and back to another week.
Cinch and I had lots of time to work- play- and tease eachother. We were on eachothers nerves at the begining of the week but by the end of the week we were loving eachother again. His speech is picking up ALOT which makes things so much easier and he is doing really good with please & thank you. He also is back to letting us read a whole book not just a page.
What a week but a really fun one.
