A Friday Afternoon Ride

Friday Afternoon Daniel got permission for Cinch & I to ride through some of the cows on his Unit since it is our last weekend here. I must say it felt like a million bucks to be back in the saddle again and riding through cows. It was a nice day 70*- which can either be warm or cold depending where the wind is coming from. It was a 70* chilly day so we wore jackets but still great weather for the end of November.

Cinch look at those Cabbage/Palm Trees. Everyone on the ranch calls them cabbage trees.

Kisses for daddy for taking us riding finally.

A new baby calf- a little different than back home. Babies in tall grass not snow and mud.

Look at that nice Winter grass- Still bright green and up to the horses hips.

This poor mama needs a horn trim- but it added character for a cool picture.

A secret pond in the middle of a Cabbage Tree Hammock. It even had lilly pads in the pond- no alligators were up- too cold of a day- I was okay with that I really didn't want to see a huge gator by my horse.

Cinch practiced his roping for part of the ride- and the other part of the ride he took daddy for a ride. If Cinch rides with you- don't plan on holding the reins- he feels his is old enough for that responsibility.

And then Daniel showed us the wild hog pens. You get paid to trap hogs on the ranch because they resell the hogs to hunting leases. Ugly creatures but still cool to see their tusks. Can you see the baby runt?? He is black in the middle of the pic.

Just a shot of the cows and Cabbage Hammock in the background. This is Florida- Flat with trees.

It was pretty much our FAVORITE Friday afternoon- mainly because Daniel didn't have to work all day and because we were all horse back.

I believe I used to ride that horse that Daniel is on when she was about 4 years old back on unit 3 and then 13 and 6 etc.... It has been a lot of fun and I am soooo jealous of all the Florida stuff you guys get to do lately. I know it isn't home to you guys but I love checking your blog to see cool new pictures. It makes me homesick like you guys get when you think of the mountains, snow, sage brush etc... I can usually tell exactly where you are at and where Daniel is talking about in your stories. Looks like Dan is tagging calves on 2 lately. We'll look forward to seeing you guys back and swapping stories. Good luck on the drive, I know how long it gets.- Taylor P.

It is a little weird seeing a picture of a cowboy on a horse next to a palm tree... I don't know if I can truly grasp it. Do you think you could get used to the calf being in the grass instead of the snow? I guess that could ultimately answer the question to live in Florida or not? --DJ
