We also had the annual Cornwall Family Reunion (my moms brothers & sisters). It was great to see the aunts and uncles and the cousins that showed up. The train my Uncle Mont built many years ago when I was little was still up and running- Cinch loved riding on it and Carli was kind enough to hold him in the seat by her- I'll have to get pictures from Josie to post later.
Tuesday the 16th we got a call from Daniel's dad telling us his mom was in surgery to get her appendix removed- before it burst. We said to call us when she was done and let us know how to help. About a half hour later Dad called back and said they had found a tumor in her colon that they had to remove- and that she would be in the hospital for a week. Before the shock really set in Daniel & I made the decision that Cinch & I would head for Island Park that night to help Jared(dan's littlest brother) take care of the guest ranch for the next three days. With quick packing- not really realizing what I had packed- Cinch was bathed and we were on the road by 8:00. I think Cinch had sensed our worry and fear and didn't sleep a wink until we were about 10 minutes from the ranch (reminds me of the stories of Daniel keeping his mom awake on the drive from Twin Falls back home to Snowville and falling asleep the last 10 minutes).
It was a beautiful week in Island Park- even if it rained most of the time. It wasn't the best timing for my triathlon this weekend but we made the most of it by trying to run and bike a little bit.
Wednesday night Jared, Kalee, Cinch & I went to visit mom. She was in good spirits and looked so strong for having such a change in her life the last 12 hours. She is the most amazing woman and I love her to death. I am very very lucky to love my in-laws like they were my own parents. Thursday and Friday morning at the ranch were peaceful and the office phone actually didn't ring too much mainly the same people calling over and over again asking more and more questions. Friday as we headed home we stopped in Rexburg to say good bye and Cinch made their day. He is in to wearing his cowboy hat everywhere and I let him wear it into the hospital this day. Mom was off of her iv and morphine and got word that she would get to go home early- great news!! She was finally going to get to eat real food and looked like she hadn't had major surgery 3 days earlier. It was hard to leave this special lady and knew I would miss her at the triathlon that she had been cheering me on for months. An emotional tiring week but the pathology results should be tomorrow and we should have a better idea of the months ahead.
To lighten the mood we finally got Cinch a basketball hoop. I have been looking at the DI and craigslist the past few months because I am too cheap to buy one new- because the used ones usually are in good shape. There were plenty of hoops this winter in the DI but I didnt buy one then because there was snow outside and since the snow melted I haven't been able to find one- the last time I went to the DI someone was walking out with one--- anger filled my body! But finally one of the kids daniel works with was cleaning out their boys' toys for a yard sale and it was going to be sold so we bought it- and well Cinch LOVES it to death.
