Fire on the Ranch

Last Wednesday we had a fire on the ranch. It's been a cold but dry winter, so we were pretty worried how much range it would burn.
Daniel had been bangs vaccinating heifers all day, and up since 4. He had been in the house less than 10 minutes when the call came in. The Abbott crew all jumped to actions to get the fire rig loaded and on their way to the fire. They went pretty fast, and made good time. Thankfully through prayers, the fire was out fast and no one was injured.

My boys HATE when Daniel leaves to fight fire. They become hysterical and it's all I can do to distract them from the fact he's gone. This night we had ice cream for dinner and watched movies- what ever works.

Somehow a hay bale and the feeder was the cause of this fire. Luckily the intern unhooked the tractor and got it to a safe zone so at least it wasn't damaged. The wind was really strong that night. They were finally able to get the pasture out and then the hay bales burned for more days. Daniel got home about 2 am.
