14 Bull Wagons

June 22nd we realized how dry of a summer it was really going to be. We got a call just a few days before saying all 1,064 head of our yearling heifers/replacement heifers were going to the feedyard.
Meaning we would not be calving 2 year old next spring and our work and time invested into the biggest and well handling set of heifers was headed, to become meat- not moms.

Daniel and I understood its what had to happen, we were going to be lucky to make it through the summer with just our cows and calves. Cinch on the other hand was going to take this hard. Every year Cinch is given the yearling herd to "watch over".  Their his babies. He reminded you to cake them, check water, helped rotate them to their new pastures every few days. We decided to not tell him til the night before so he wouldn't be too upset.

By the time Cinch woke up at 7am, all 1064 head were in the corrals, the first of 14 trucks had been loaded and was pulling away. This was just the first of many things we would experience the summer of 2012, in the hottest driest summer on record.
