Calving- Drought- Turtles- Owls

Calving has gone along really smoothly this year. Its been nice to not have to tag calves, this being the first time in the 4 calving seasons we've been here. Cinch usually would head out before school to help. I'd run him to school and then Chauncey and I would spend the afternoon helping with calving, building fence and feeding hay. It was sure nice to be out and about.
Cinch is really good to let Chauncey have a ride with him. I love that Nick is yawning in this picture.
The only way to keep Chauncey Happy and occupied while saddling horses, is to get Cinch's saddled and have him sit up there while the rest get saddled.
We are calving on the Eldred Meadow this spring, the first time ever. It's been really fun to see lots of snapper turtles in the drain ditches.
We were helping build fence this afternoon and this calf was laying right by the new fence line. It sure kept Chauncey occupied. Look at that grin.

The owls in our barn had 2 babies again. They are funny looking creatures for sure.
The boys out doing on last check one night while I was at YW's.

I sure do love the life that we live. We might not have fast internet, cell phone service or lots of money.
But days like this one make up for the rest.
Our boys love the animals just as much as we do.
Cinch loves to hold hands on the way back to the barn or trailer.

The drought certainly hasn't broken yet. Because of this the semi's came back to take our heavy's (still pregnant) cows to the ranch in Oklahoma. I sure hope they don't have to come back for drought de-stocking shipping. We have 35-40% less cows on us than usual right now, after branding cows are getting moved around some, but I hope the rain will come all summer long.
